Makenzie Mosel, a Sophomore for Plainview, represented the Lady Pirates wrestling squad at the 2025 NSAA Class B State Girls Wrestling Championships at Chi Health Center Arena in Omaha on Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb. 18 and 19.
Mosel, who qualified for the tournament by earning fourth place in the Class B District Four tournament, entered the state championships with a record of 21-9.
Despite having one of the lowest numbers of wins in the Class B 130-pound bracket, Mosel came ready to go in her first match against Banister of Gordon-Rushville.
Against Bannister, Mosel fought hard to get out on top early. After gaining the lead, she never looked back. With a final score of 5-3, Mosel became the first Lady Pirate in school history to earn a victory at the NSAA State Wrestling Championships.
Unfortunately, after her victory in round one, Mosel was unable to recreate her success.
