The Plainview Lady Pirate track and field team is gearing up for yet another competitive season in Class D, as the team officially began competition on Friday, March 21 in Seward at the Concordia University CUNE Invite.
After earning fifth place as a team in the 2024 Class D State Championships, the Lady Pirates are looking to repeat the success they found last season with a plethora of returning athletes.
This season, the Pirates will have a total of 20 girls out for the team, with 17 having been members of last year’s squad.
Included amongst those 17 returning members of the team are the trio of Peighton Arlt, Avery Hardisty, and Amma Sauser, who all medaled at last year’s state track and field championships.
“This upcoming season we are excited to see which juniors will take on leadership roles since there are no seniors on our roster,” said head coach of the Lady Pirates, Jordan Leake. “There are events to fill from last year’s graduates and us coaches are eager to see who is ready to fill them. We are looking forward to success at conference, districts, and hopefully state.”
