Community garage sales this weekend The 2020 Community Garage sales will kick off this weekend, with some sales on Friday, August 28, a variety of home sales, as well as group sales at the City Auditorium will be held in conjunction with the Cruisin' Day car show this weekend. Veteran Stories: Promoted on the Battlefield in Italy Henry I. Kremer was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kremer from Crofton. Although he was a Crofton native, Henry joined the National Guard in Madison, Minnesota where he was working at the time after the U.S. declared war on Japan and Germany in 1941. Kremer served in the early days of the U.S. involvement in World War II in the North African invasion. Treasures Donates to Crofton Pool Main Treasures volunteers Vicki Woockman, Bernice Tramp, Marlene Hynes, JoAnn Woockman, and Marietta McFarland present a check for $2100 to Economic Development Director Erin Filips for the swimming pool project. The funds were raised from shoppers and donations August 5-8 at the community thrift store.

Crofton's Senior Center re-opens... Katie Tramp, Manager Mary Sawatzke, and Dorothy Schoenberner preparing for the first day of "eating in" at Crofton's Senior Center on Monday, August 17. The Center was allowed to reopen with guidelines in place, and will start serving meals again with lunches and dinners offered, as well as bingo and some events.

Test Nebraska hits 100,000 mark Test Nebraska, which is currently the number one source of testing in the state of Nebraska, reached a milestone July 24, having tested more than 100,000 Nebraska residents since the program launched in April. Power companies train responders... Representatives from Cedar-Knox Public Power, Hartington and Northeast Power, Wayne were on hand for a training session for area firemen and EMT’s at the Crofton Fire Hall on Wednesday, July 15. One of the points of the course on electrical safety focused on what to do when there are downed power lines which can happen due to a motor vehicle accident, a storm or during the use of large farm machinery. It’s very important to be aware of your surroundings since there aren’t always sparks or sounds with downed wires. Anyone approaching such a scene should first call the closest power company and remain at least 50 feet away. If there is a person inside a vehicle or tractor under a downed power line, that person should remain in the vehicle until someone from the utility determines that it is safe to exit.
